Faith Community Services, an independent nonprofit corporation working with the faith-based organizations of North Lincoln County Faith Community Services (FCS) was founded in 2008 by a group of lay-leaders and ministers in Lincoln City, Oregon, to begin to meet the needs of the poorest of the poor in North Lincoln County.
Faced with constant requests for loans and handouts, the ministers and leaders of the local churches came together to find ways to address the underlying problems. In the process, it became clear that there were a large number of homeless families and individuals in the area, and the idea of finding some way for them to have a place where they could get a chance to amass the resources to have a home emerged.
The City of Lincoln City offered a rundown building as a possible transition house. Hundreds of volunteers transformed it into a warm, comfortable residence, and the first FCS project - The Siletz House Transitional Program for Men - was born.
For almost 4 years, we have been offering this program, with varying degrees of success, and we've learned a lot. We've also participated in Project Homeless Connect and worked with other agencies in the area. Now we're ready to branch out into new programs, and are seeking the funding and volunteer support to make them happen.
Keep checking in with us as we grow and evolve!
